Google has announced a planned update that targets sites with too many ads above the fold.
In other words, if your site is too top-heavy with ads, you could see your organic traffic drop.
I've been in the internet marketing business for the better part of a decade and I can't remember a time when I've ever been able to use the phrase top-heavy in relation to a Google update.
And, since Danny Sullivan is currently soliciting names for this update, I don't think we should squander this chance to inject a bit of levity into what might otherwise be a very stressful Google update.
Therefore, I propose we dub this the Parton Update. It has a nice alliteration with Google's most recent Panda Update, and it instantly lets people know what the update is about.
We can discuss the implications of the update and what Google does or doesn't consider an ad, or the fact that Google themselves show 100% ads above the fold for many searches later. For now let's just make sure we get the name right.
Spread the word!
I vote that the latest Google update be dubbed the #PartonUpdate! (cc: @dannysullivan)
